 20181028 – Sunday – South Adelaide

This morning I went to South Adelaide and set myself up as usual 2nd row from the front in the comfortable chairs and with my little old-fashioned school desk in front of me for my ipad and phone.

Carol and Adrian Dangerfield usually sit next to me and feel very comfortable sitting there.

Today was a bit different.

The exhortation was supposed to be given by a brother Phil Evans, a friend of Jane S who was going to be visiting Australia from the mission field.

But he has just discovered that he has a tumour in his arm and so has cancelled his visit.

He gave Jane his exhortation in written form and so it was to be read instead of him speaking it.

It was a great exhort.

The reading was Col 3v1-17 and it was read by ? Russell.

It was about kindness, the kindness of strangers and Phil exhorted us to be kind for “we shall not pass this way again.”

We need to redeem the time while is yet day.

He exhorted us to clothe ourselves with compassion as if we are putting on our clothes as we dress each day, Col 3v12.

Col 3v12

Clothe yourself with compassion, and unkindness ought to feel like clothes that are uncomfortable to wear.

A loving and kind spirit is contagious, and a single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions and causes others to be kind in turn.

We are on a journey and we are travellers and we should always speak the language of kindness to those we meet upon the way.

The words used in the NT for “kindness” convey the meaning of favour and merciful kindness, but not just any kindness, it is the kindness of God.

Phil wrote about incidents of kindness in the lives of people in the Bible.

Jonathan asks David to show kindness to his family when he becomes king.

20 years later, David fulfilled his oath to Jonathan in caring for Saul’s disabled grandson.

“That I may show kindness, the kindness of God, who is the ultimate source of all goodness and kindness.

We are to put on like a garment the kindness of God.

The fruits of the spirit are to be added to a godly man.

This is conveyed all throughout the Psalms.

“How precious is they loving Kindness Oh God.”

Psa 50v3

David yearned for the loving kindness of God to be bestowed on him.

He wanted to be in the shadow of God’s wings.

David said, “I have not concealed his lovingkindness from the great assembly,” in other words, the household of faith.

When David Sinned in the matter of Bathsheba, he wrote in Psa 51.

“Have mercy according to your loving kindness, O Lord, blot out my transgressions.”

Kindness was the essential characteristic of the godly man, the Lord Jesus Christ.

His kindness was demonstrated in the feeding of the 5000, the woman taken in adultery.

He was even kind to those who crucified him, “Father forgive them,” he cried.

Gal 5v22, “The fruit of the spirit is love, patience, kindness and goodness,” and against these virtues, there is no law.

The word agape is related to the word kindness.

We should all strive to be children of God.

In the writings of  Paul and Peter, the brothers and sisters in Corinth were asked to show kindness.

Kindness is the outcome of the fruits of the spirit working in our hearts.

And so we are exhorted 2 Pet 1v7, to add to your your faith.. goodness, godliness, brotherly kindness and love.

The word for brotherly kindness and love go together.

“Do your love me,” asked Jesus? “Then feed my sheep.”

1 Pet 1v13, “Do not conform to desires of ignorance…….as God is Holy, be ye holy.

The price that was paid for this grace was the precious blood of Christ.

God gave his only son to die for our sin and to rise again for our justification.

Eph 2v4

By grace you have been saved.

It is the gift of God, through the immeasurable riches of his grace.

It is not of our doing, yet the greatest act of kindness that we can do, is to demonstrate God’s kindness to each other.

Eph 4v2. Forgive each other, just as God and Jesus forgive you.

Tit 3v4. Through the love of God and his mercy and our renewal by the Holy Spirit, we are heirs together, having hope of eternal life.

This is just a summary of Phil’s exhortation

And now to my daily diet.

Sunday 27th October, 2018

Fay: Darren, I would like for us not to clear the stats but to make the commencement from were we first started. I think these first stats give a wonderful picture of the commencement of the whole process. I wouldn’t want to lose these stats.

Going swimming.

Darren: Ok, no probs.

Fay: Breakfast, mixed salad and 2 poached eggs both from organic cafe on Broadway, Glenelg.

Darren: Feeling good today?

Fay: Yes, feeling ok.

Green tea.

Hope you have noticed I have replaced coffee with green tea.

How did CrossFit go last night?

Have filled in form.

Going home now after swimming.

Darren: Yes, you have done well there.

Your body should start to even out without the caffeine spike so hopefully energy levels feel more consistent.

Yeah, good. I have a rowing competition I am getting ready for tomorrow.

Hoping that I might take out a first in my category in Australia tomorrow.

Glad to see you are also starting some exercise.

Fay: My legs are really bad at the moment.

I can hardly walk at all.

I found some maca at health store next to cafe this morning.

Darren: That’s no good. Did the exercise help at all?

Fay: It helps a lot but legs still painful when walking.

One knee joint was clicking all through my exercise time in pool.

Darren: R u just walking back and forward in the pool?

Fay: Yes and running on the spot.

I only exercise my legs and maybe my arms.
