Last night was catch up time with my daughters Deb and Helen. Because they live interstate from me, the phone is the best and main medium of contact and I don’t use it often enough.
I woke up around 3.30 am feeling a bit strange and after a minute I identified the feeling as “low sugar level.” I got up and pricked my finger to test my sugar level, 4.2, very low for me. I needed something sweet to eat. The nearest food at hand was some Xmas pudding. I cut a piece, ate it, had a drink of water and went back to bed. That would be enough to raise my level – in fact probably too much.
I woke at 7.30 and later after dressing and tidying up I decided, since it was Australia Day, and also pay day, that I would get out into the world and have coffee somewhere along the beach. It was 8.15 am and when I came to the carpark by the beach it was simply “chockers” with cars. People were setting up chairs and umbrellas on the lawns by the bicycle path,
It seems the whole world has got up early for Australia Day. Even the little “travellers” car park right by the Esplanade was full, and along the Esplanade there was a long line of parked cars. People were walking and jogging and walking dogs. On the beach there were lots of people walking along the sand and quite a few were swimming. The sky was overcast, but it would probably clear up during the day.
I knew Rosie’s would not be open this morning so I drove along trying to decide which of my “watering holes” to go to. I saw a little place at the beach end of Henley Beach Road that I hadn’t really noticed before. It was called “Yankees” so I thought I would try that. It is opposite the IGA store on Henley Beach Road. I ordered Green eggs and ham, but wished I hadn’t because I found that the piece of cake I had eaten earlier had filled me up and I simply didn’t have room for the meal I had ordered. The owner of the cafe was serving in the cafe, quite obviously he was an American.
Never mind, I set myself up on a little round table in the front of the cafe and here I am with my phone, and my iPad ready to “do” what I “love to do”.
