20181227 – Thursday – Dimboola to Horsham, to Portland

Yesterday was so hot!

It is 7.32 am and I am sitting crosswise in my trailer writing up my diary.

Last night I slept well, which was simply wonderful after no sleep at all the night before.

Ali accidentally rang me.

She hadn’t intended to ring me but must have hit the button on facebook that gives video calls.

It was nice talking to her.

She told me that Andy L had met up with a couple of Jewish young men who were spending their “gap year” in Australia.

After talking to them, he invited them to Ali’s place for the evening.

Ali and Trev were having all the Lund clan and the grandchildren to their place for their gift giving night.

To welcome these two Jewish young men to her house, Ali gathered the whole clan together and got them to sing Ha Tikvah, the Jewish national anthem.

The Gore family are all very musical so they were able to sing the song in parts, and Amanda played her violin.

Then having sung “their” song, Ali then got everyone to sing a hymn from our hymn book, which of course, just had to be “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”

I can imagine these two young men would have been amazed, having just got off the plane in Australia, to have met up with such a group of random people who have an association with the Jewish community.

I wish I had been there.

I would have had breakfast at Dimboola, but the service station restaurant was disgusting and the toilets were disgusting as well.

I knew because I had been there the night before.

So I drove on to Horsham, but all the service stations on the way in, did not seem to have suitable food facilities.

I searched my google maps and finally found a Caltex place called  The Foodery which seemed to be okay.

Caltex have been renovating some of their service stations with tables with power points on each table, which is pretty marvellous I thinkLa

So I have ordered scrambled eggs and bacon and a flat white, and they also have good toilet facilities with disabled facilities as well, so I will be trying to find Caltex service centres on my future travels.

From Horsham I decided to go to Portland, Vic.

I found a place that was free camping and it turned out to be just great.

It is an RV site and there was a mixture of tents and RVs there.

The toilets are good but no showers, and there is an aquatic centre close by, which I will check out tomorrow.

If it obviously frequented by young families as a great place for their kids to stay, where they can ride their push bikes on the oval and the bitumen around the camp sites.

I have backed my trailer up facing the oval and so I have a view out over the aquatic centre and the oval.

I spent most of the afternoon asleep in my van, and it is now 8.30 and I have awoken and so will probably be awake until midnight.

I am once again sitting cross wise in my trailer sand writing up my diary.

I am tempted to stay here for a few days.

We shall see.
