20190209 – Saturday – Doctor!

Today, I had an appointment with my doctor!

Well, you all know how I love Doctors, and today’s appointment did not disappoint.

First of all I went to Vilis for breakfast, to prepare my mind for the appointment.

I did this by once more having a look at the movie “Struggle,” about the sculptor, Szukalkski.

I find his story inspiring.

He has been called the Michaelangelo of the 21st century, and one thing is for sure he was the greatest sculptor that America has ever seen.

I revisited this movie because I had been amazed at some of the concepts contained in Szukalkski’s words in the movie.

So, I summarised some of the sections of it for future use.

Then, inspired, I went on my way to the DOCTOR.

I first of all went to visit the nurse in the Medical Centre and I had her take my blood pressure.

The reason for this is because I have “White Coat Syndrome,” in other words, I get so stressed out when I visit the doctor that my blood pressure soars and so the best way for me to get a reading that is even CLOSE to what it should be, It is better for me to get a nurse to take my reading.

Sure enough, when the nurse took it, my reading was 168/75, and when the doctor took it a short time later it read 198/109.

Either way, it was too high!

I asked the doctor for a new Lantus prescription, no problem.

Then I confessed to the doctor that I had stopped taking all my drugs 3 months ago.

He was not pleased!

I told him that I had gone on a no-carbs diet and that this had reduced the need for insulin by a very large amount.

I now only needed a maximum of 40 Lantus and 40 Novarapid  as compared to 110 Lantus and 80 Novarapid a day.

I had also lost overall 12 kgs from 107kg to 95kg, since March of last year.

He commended me on this, so that was the one good thing he had to say to me during my appointment.

Then came the inevitable.

About the drugs.

Well, I said, the drugs had been accumulated over a number of doctors and considerable amount of time.

Now that I had changed my approach to food, and insulin, and drugs, I asked him to review my previous drugs, and ONLY prescribe what he felt was ABSOLUTELY necessary.

So I came away with one prescription for Lantus, and,

two other prescriptions,

1 for something called Atacand (Candesartan Cilexetil), 8. Mg tablet, 1 in the morning with meals,

And

Zanidip 1- mg tablet (Lercanidipine Hydrocloride, 1 in the evening.

This after having a whole Websters pack of various drugs.

So I WILL take these, at least until I have lost a lot more weight, and feel a LOT healthier.

He booked me in for another blood test and an appointment with my endocrinologist.

He refused my request for subsidised parking, but finally gave me the forms for me to fill in without any recommendations from him.

Why do I get the feeling that he is not happy with me?

It seems to me that doctors are happier when you have out-of-control sugar levels and are fainting all over the place, than when you take your own health into your own hands a little bit more, and make some real life-style-changes.

When I finally left I felt greatly relieved to have that over with.

As I walked out the door, I remembered I had not been weighed, so I stood on the scales, and to my delight found that I was 95 kg now.

So from March 2018 to February 2019 I had lost 12 kg, which equates to 1 kg a month loss overall.

Maybe I can lose another 12 kg over this coming year.

If I do manage to do this, how much will my health be improved by this?

Surely I will the no longer NEED any insulin to keep my sugar levels around 4-5.

Now I will just need to get ready for my trip to Tassie with Selena, but I think I will now go to bed for a “nanna nap” to recover from my doctor’s appointment.
