20181030 – Tuesday – Marion Optus

I am sitting here at the Coffee Club Marion shopping centre waiting for Optus to open.

I have had a cup of coffee and discovered that the Coffee Club gives out free use of battery chargers for people’s iPhones and iPads.

Since both my phone and my iPad are out of charge, this was a wonderful discovery for me.

My iPad’s batter has not been charging properly for some time.

If it gets below 10% charged, it won’t charge at all and soon the screen blanks it.

Also my iPhone this morning has not been taking photos properly and is very blurry.

So both of these things sent me scurrying off to Optus to get sorted out.

Darren was very soon on Whatsapp and demanding that I consult him before doing/buying or anything else without consulting with him.

So, as always, we argued and discussed while I waited.

In the end I found that it was probably my phone connection at home was faulty, so ALL I will buy today, maybe, is a new charger that I can use in these situations.

Darren, rather snidely, I thought, said “the world stops for you when you can’t use your phone.”

And that is true!!

And now, here is my diet story for Monday.

Fay: Home from swimming and breakfast.

Met Susie J at Organic cafe.

11.am at 17.0 sugar level

10 units of insulin.

Breakfast was 2 poached eggs on salad and green tea.

For lunch I used the pie I purchased from the butcher and the pastry was uncooked so dI was able to peel it off and heat the meat in the l over shell, and not eat the base. Perfect!

How is this for a meal, Darren?

Should I eat anything else as well?

Darren: In future avoid doing or buying that.

1, you are wasting food you don’t need to buy.

And 2, pies are generally filled with the crappy meats.

Same normally goes for sausage,s but in this case we will leave those.

Also, all you had was meat.

You need vegetable with every meal post-breakfast.

That’s a must.

Vegetables have amazing nutrient value that helps with all sorts of other things too.

Fay: Ok, they said the meat is to crappy, it is just the trimmings of the rest of their meat??

Darren: Those frozen veggies I suggested are fine for this.

So vegetables, meat and 1/2 tbsp of coconut or olive oil would be fine.

Then just buy mince.

You don’t need to get it in a pie.

Fay: Ok, that is what I was asking you.

I will simply eat some avocado and spinach leaves as well.

Darren: Also you are then contaminating it with wheat.

Spinach is fine for breakfast.

Once you hit post-breakfast, go for vegetables so you are getting as much of a range as possible.

Fay: Ok, ok, I willnot buy any more meat pies.

The vegetables are in the soup and I will be eating that for lunch and chicken.

That will have the broccoli and stuff in it.

Darren: OK, great, but every meal every 2 or 3 hours needs some greens.

Fay: Ok, I am learning

1 pm at 18 sugar level

Obviously my body didn’t like that pie!

10 units of Insulin.

Darren: Well, at least you have the data to show that now.

Pies are NO GOOD.

Fay: Well, it is. Only because of my diabetes that I can measure what effects foods have on my sugar levels.

Darren: Darren put up a photo of what Hayley is having for breakfast.

This is good, pie not good, maybe then no diabetes!!

Fay: Looks good. I reckon y diabetes is going to be got rid of.

Have just had almost 2 hours’ sleep.

3.00 pm at 15.9 sugar level.

Darren put up a photo of his lunch (about twice the size of what I would eat).

Fay: So 10 units of insulin brought my sugar level down 2 points!

Darren: See all those veggies?

Yes, that’s what we need to work out.

Fay: That looks good. Also looks LARGE.

Maybe I will steam some vegetables for lunch tomorrow, or just have soup?

Darren: Have you got a measure?

As long as you are getting 150 grams min per serving of veggies, then whatever you prefer.

Fay: Ok.

Dinner, Chicken and vegetable soup and a sausage and few nuts.

Darren: lol, you get one sausage, or chicken, not both!

You want about 100 grams of meat.

Fay:  Yes, but the soup, there is not much chicken in it, only a small amount

So sausage is 100 grams.

I only had chicken because of vegetables in soup.

In the whole soup there was there was 1 breast of chicken and that soup will make me three or 4 bowls of soup.

Darren: Why don’t you just have 150 grams of vegetables, sausage and a few nuts?

Fay: I have no more vegetables left. It is all in the soup.

Pay day tomorrow and shopping.

1/4 cup coconut milk with 1 tbsp chia seeds and 1 tsp maca.

Now I am full and that was dinner.

5.15 pm at 17.6 sugar level

10 units of insulin.

Few macadamias

Darren: Ok need to avoid that happening again.

Let’s buy double frozen veg next time, and buy online so it’s cheaper and your dollar goes further.

Fay: 8 pm at 15.4 sugar level.

10 units of Insulin.

Will shop tomorrow.

1/2 avocado and few nuts.

Bed.

Darren: Night.

11.15 pm at 12.9 sugar

20 units of Lantus.

I am trying something new.

Lantus is long term insulin.

Will see what effect is.

And how much I hve to use to keep my levels even.

Darren: Ok you said 10 units drops by 2?

So that should get you down to the 10’s?

Fay: 1.40 am at 11.9 sugar level.

Not on long term Lantus which is slow released over time.

20 units of Lantus.

I will need another field now for Novarapid insulin.

The insulin field will become “Novarapid,” and the new field will become “Lantus.”

Before our “experiment” I used to take 80 units of Lantus int he morning which was supposed to cover me for 24 hours, and also in the morning, 30 units of Novarapid to bring down the spike.

I didn’t really understand this because I was having many spikes and had to take more insulin.

I also didn’t understand how ravaging to my body was taking that much insulin.

But because of the carbs I was eating my sugar levels were sometimes as much as 20+.

And not even controlled by the insulin I was taking and then I needed to take more, 30 units each of Novarapid and Lantus before bed.

It horrifies me to think of it now.

So we must find a level of Lantus to take now and then a level of Novarapid to take as well.

So I am going  to take the Lantus at 20 units at a time, to find out how much I need over a 24 hour period.

May not need Novarpid at first.

But it will be trial and error.

5.37 am at 14.6 sugar.

20 units of Lantus

Wake up

End of Monday.
