20181127 – Tuesday – New way of eating
Today I received an email from my friend Jim D from Rhode Island, in which he says:
Thanks Fay, that was very helpful.
My problem is that I have been a ‘hobby chef’ for many years. I can whip up some pretty fantastic foods based on all kinds of international cuisines and I do a pretty mean American barbecue.
In fact I recently attended a BBQ school about 1,000 miles away with my best friend (a Brother in the truth). This was in Georgia and hosted by the man that has won the most competitive BBQ contests in the USA by a wide margin.
So cutting out a lot of foods is difficult for me, but not impossible.
Dorrie & I have started. I even started buying grass fed beef, which I never did before. I also restarted my treadmill walking most days.
You must have inspired me.

And I replied:
Dear Jim,
So you are a great cook as well as being a great expositor so it is going to be exceptionally hard for you to keep to this way of eating.
BUT you will do it, because health is more important than anything else in this age.
You and I are “insulin resistant” and it is going to be hard for you, as it is for me, to keep to.
BUT the results in improvement in health, let alone in weight, are too good to pass over.
I have been on this way of eating since 12th October, 2018.
In the first month I lost over 4 kgs, but then in this month, November, I lost nothing.
Then I listened a talk by Dr Noakes and he said that in order to lose weight one has to eat no more than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day.
50 grams is equal one apple and one banana a day.
I had been eating small amounts of fruit for lunch and dinner, which probably took me over that 50 gram level, so I lost NO weight in the 2nd month.
So I cut out the fruit and today, for the first time in this month I have begun losing weight again.
Everthing Dr Noakes says, I have proved is true for me, experientially.
So goodbye BBQs and fancy cooking, unless you get great pleasure from seeing other people grow fat.
And I look around me, as I did at a recent ecclesial camp, and see all my friends expanding at an unbelievable rate!!
And I feel sorry for them and I tell them my “secret” and some of them follow and grow thin and others don’t, but eventually they all do, because the pain they experience is too great to ignore the solution.
I have stopped taking all my drugs.
I have stopped taking my large amounts of insulin, and now only need about 20 Lantus and 20 Novarapid to keep my diabetes levels down to between 5 – 7.
And my health has improved in leaps and bounds.
So I have got very used to eating eggs, fish, and steak and chops and avocado and tomato and spinach leaves and cucumber and celery as JUST ABOUT MY STAPLE DIET.
I focus on what I have gained, not on what I have lost.
However, you don’t have to worry about too much exercise, because one of the things Dr Noakes has discovered is that weight loss is in no way affected by exercise, It is all the carbs we eat that puts on weight.
So I plan to lose all my excess weight BEFORE I do too much exercise, that is, until I am carting around a little less weight!!
But if you like the treadmill, then go for it.

So there you are.
Darren and I have temporarily stopped our communication, because he wants me to exercise more, and believing as I do that exercise does not affect weight loss, I intend to wait until I have lost a LOT more weight before I do much exercise.
Why? Because I am lazy.
And also because I have other things that are more important and all that exercise takes up SO MUCH TIME.
I figure I may have only 5-15 years to live so it is more important to me to use that time doing those things that are important to me.
By exercising I might last a few years longer, but I really don’t care enough to worry about that.
Well today is pay day, and the coffers have been replenished.
Once upon a time I would have celebrated with a big breakfast at the cost of $20+ but now with my current way of eating, I just continue on with my “packed lunch,” so I guess it is saving me quite a bit of $$.
I would like to get back to writing my story from way back in 1975 +. So I will try to look at that today.
I kept my diary over the years. All my correspondence and comments about my life from that time.
Because I have written my story up to 1975, I remember EVERYTHING that happened pre-1975, but from 1975 onwards, at present I remember very little.
I want to have an overview of my life If I can, before I die.
It requires I go through all my photographs as well. There is never enough time in the day to do all the things I want to do.
But I have more energy these days, so I should be able to do better.
I LOVE revisiting my life!
It is such fun.
I remember things I have forgotten for years, and people and places.
Life is such a wonderful gift, and I get to live it twice because of my diary.

At last I have lost some weight .
I must be eating under 50 grams of carbs because I have started losing weight again.
Down from 96.4 to 96 kg !
