Chapter 11 – The Cherubim – in Exodus by Fay Berry
Having received the pattern of the Tabernacle from Michael the Archangel at Mt Sinai, Moses and the specially prepared and authorised artisans prepared the tabernacle for erection. All the people would have watched in awe and excitement as the tabernacle rose up before their eyes. No sound of hammer or nail would have been heard and all would have waited with bated breath to see the this final erection of a ‘house’ for their God, and so “Moses finished the work,” (Ex 40:33).
Then the cloud of the Cherubim descended from Sinai and “covered the tabernacle of meeting” and the glory of the Name of the Lord filled the tabernacle and God dwelled with the children of Israel and led them throughout their wilderness wanderings. Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle the children of Israel would go onwards but when the cloud was not taken up they did not journey, and the cloud of the Cherubim was above the tabernacle by day and fire was over it by night, in the sight of the children of Israel
throughout all their journeys ( Ex 40:38). The children of Israel learned all of God’s commandments about the form that their worship was to take in the wilderness of Sinai, (Lev 7:38).
