Study 3 – The heavens by Fay Berry 2018

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters (Gen 1:6), and God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament (Gen 1:7). And God called the firmament Heaven and the evening and the morning were the second day (Gen 1:8).

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years (Gen 1:14), and to give light upon the earth (Gen 1:15). And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth (Gen 1:17)

“The heavens declare the glory of God,” says the Psalmist, “and the firmament shows his handiwork” (Psa 19:1), “praise God in his sanctuary, in the firmament of his power” (Psa 150:1).

As old Pa Harris, who taught me the truth, way back in 1955, constantly said to me, “As with the natural so with the spiritual,’ and so Ezekiel speaks about the spiritual equivalent of the “firmament of the heavens” saying, “And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above” (Ezek 1:22).

Everything that Ezekiel describes about the Cherubim is speaking of the immortalisation of the saints and their inclusion in “the chariot of the Lord” when he appears “with healing in his wings.”

“And under the firmament,” Ezekiel tells us, the wings of the Cherubim “were straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies” (Ezek 1:23).

“There was a voice” Ezekiel tells us, from the Cherubim,“ a voice from the firmament that was over their heads when they stood, and had let down their wings” (Ezek 1:25). And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone.” “and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it (Eze 1:26).

“Then,” said Ezekiel, “I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubim there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne (Eze 10:1).

Daniel too speaks about the spiritual heavens, the “heavenlies” where we live in our minds in these days of our probation. “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever (Dan 12:3).

Everything in the natural creation results from God’s spoken word, and the Bible is the manual for us to learn spiritual lessons from aspects of God’s creation.
