20160323 – Wednesday – Catch-up with Darren, Terror attack in Brussels

2008 Darren and Fay at Telbiz'

Darren when we were partners in “Big Byte” and Telefirm all those years ago

I went to Vili’s this morning and set up my computer ready for an hour or so’s work. I paid some $$ off of Splitwise for Darren, Splitwise is an app that I have on my iphone which Darren G set up for me. Since he owns my car but I use it, I pay the insurance and registration and all running costs for the car. The way we work it is he pays all the bills with his credit card and then he enters it in “Splitwise,” the amount that I owe him. Then when I pay an amount off the total, I enter what I have paid in Splitwise, and it is taken off of the total amount that I owe him. This means it is easy to keep up with where we are at and when we talk to each other we don’t always have to talk about money.  At the moment I owe him $34.79 which will get paid off next “pay day.”

There was another terror attack today, this time in Brussells. What a vicious and destructive ideology is the Muslim religion. The Muslims are always crying that they are “a peaceful people,” and yet there ideology is one that destroys “infidels” namely anyone who is not “them.” I am so enjoying Neville Clark’s talks, especially the bit that says that Muslim’s are not specifically mentioned in God’s plan, they are not part of Gog because they are not part of the Roman empire, past, present, or future. They are just there and will be dealt with along with all the armies of the world at Armageddon.

Darren Gore when he was much younger, probably about 9 or ten in this photo.

Just had a phone call from Darren from Darwin, and we talked about what is happening in our lives. When I come to think it, Darren would know more about me than anyone else in my life. We have been “together” since he was four years old and there is no one that I am more comfortable with. When he was a little boy I used to take him to  places like “The Beach House,” (before it was called “the Beach house.”) I would given him a handful of coins and tell him to go and “play on the free way,” and he would go on all the rides and I would sit and read a book at a table somewhere and drink coffee. In those days I was more of his “minder,” and we never used to talk. Then one day he just grew up and since then we have always talked, about anything and everything and nothing. He is, I guess, my best friend.

I worked on writing up my last day at Cobar and all the things we talked about. I finished that, put some photographs up and posted it up and sent a copy to Meg. Tomorrow night is the class at South Adelaide. I also thought about my Dad, and how much I miss certain things about him. He was such a practical man. I think of the times I have driven across the Nullabor when there was the 350 k of dirt road right in the middle of the crossing in the desert and how it always seemed that our car used to break down there. If dad had been with me, I would never have had to worry. I know what he would have done. He would first have cooked some breakfast, whistling all the time, and then he would have wandered around in the areas around the road side. He would have found a bit of wire, a bit of string and such and whatever was wrong with the car, he would have fixed it with his cleverness and ingenuity and we would have driven on without a care in the world. Unfortunately the other men in my life were not like that, not practical. So I think the thing I most admire in a man is practicality, like my father and brothers. Academics is good, but practicality is so valuable.

Like that movie, whatever its name was where some rich people got ship-wrecked and their butler, who was the practical one, soon became “king” on their island. He stayed “king” until they were rescued, and then he quickly became the subservient butler again.

Sounds like a good movie Fay. I wonder what its name was?

The movie was called The Lady in the van. My friend thought itmight be relevant to me because I like to travel with my car and trailer. So she thought that I am like a lady in a van.
