20180829 – Tuesday – Cobar

Funny!

I am sitting at the cafe on Broadway down from Susie’s, and I have just received a text message from her sister up in Cobar.

She always contacts me when she has a “funny” story to tell me.

Pauline and Susie are a unique couple of sisters who translate most everything that happens to them into funny stories.

This is a gift. It is a gift I simply DON’T have.

I seem to interpret things in my life more seriously, but I know their mother Marj Steele was like it too.

I remember Marj sitting on a lounge somewhere with Susie and and the two of them would be chuckling their heads off.

Well, as I said, I received this text message from Pauline.

It reads:

“I have a funny story to tell which could all have been videod..

except for a certain person not having the foresight to do it😳😬

Barry went up to sandy creek dam to take more water there and he had put on the dam bank a big bale of hay..

and the big billies go at the bale using their horns to drag it out of the tight bale..

and somehow 3 big billies managed to get their horns tangled in the bale twine and they were all tied together by the horns..

one of them ( a black one) had about 12 inches of length of twine between him and the other two who were tightly wound together..

so when Barry arrived they took off ..the two being dragged on by the black one and stumbling up and over..

Barry managed to trap them when the duo fell and were upside down and he seized the moment and tried to cut the twine from the black one and only managed to make his twine pull out longer and he was then mad as a cut snake and was preparing to charge Barry..

who deftly leapt aside as any adrenaline pumped 70 year old with dodgy knees can and was able to cut the taut twine..

this action propelled the goat backwards about 3metres to his freedom Hahahaha would love to have seen that..

and by this time the upside down goats had struggled to their feet and headed off as if they were harnessed together pulling a chariot in the Ben hur race and he couldn’t catch them..

So he rang me to tell Phil to come and get the goats untangled.. this is where he could’ve got to video it🙄

So when Phil came the goats were standing peacefully together having given up on trying to win the race..

Phil sprinted towards them and when he was within a couple of metres of them they realised he was coming for them and they took off racing head to head again around the dam twice…

but then ran under the big trees in the corner and stumbled over the big roots and dead branches..

and he was able to leap onto their backs and he quickly cut one free and sat on the other struggling goat and had him in a head lock and had to cut metres of twine off him and he ran off none the worse ..

that would have made a funny video for sure..”

Oh Pauline, I can just imagine it having been there on your goat farm at Cobar.

How I loved spending time up their with you on that farm.

It was an amazing place. It almost persuades me to go on one more “adventure” up the East Coast of Autralia, right up to Cobar, to be with you two crazy people.

I need a good laugh!!!

Mike Hearn I remember driving with Barry and Rob Thiele and Rob Johnson (Weasel) from Adelaide up to Rathmines and making up funny stories all the way. Those two girls had funny words for everything. Se and Naomi Kruger had their own language. I still remember some of it. Hilarious.
