20180906 – Thursday- Midweek class.
It was another good night at South reading Luke 14, where Christ was having dinner in the house of one of the chief pharisees. And they were all “watching” him, to see if he would heal a man suffering from “dropsy,” on the Sabbath day.
And the room must have been filled with the rich and famous, lawyers and pharisees, and probably not a lot of the “rank and file.”
He heals the man with dropsy, and one would have expected an uproar from amongst them, but they could say “nothing” against his reasons for his healing and apparent “non-observance” of the Sabbath day. I suspect it must have been a very quiet dinner.
Jesus filled the gap in conversation with parables, deliberately aimed a their weaknesses.
He had noted that they all had jostled for the “good” seats, as they judged their own value to the host at a higher value than Jesus (and probably the host as well) judged them. So he gave them a lesson in humility.
He advised them not to do what had been done on this occasion, but to invite to their feasts those who could not repay their “generosity.”
They had their values all wrong. And Jesus pointed out that they despised God’s “feasts,” and made excuses not to attend His table.
It is quite amazing to me how Jesus handled himself when in the company of such men as those present in that “chief pharisee’s” house.
Our saviour was indeed an amazing man.

This morning I transcribed Study 22 of Visions, and had a look at NC’s exhort on Revelation Ch 4. I like it so will transcribe that next.
Then I went for a coffee on Broadway, and to write up my diary. On the way, I suddenly thought of the “old gum tree, “ that I knew resided somewhere in Glenelg.
I have never once, over 78 years of my life, gone to see the “old gum tree.” Well, today was the day!
I didn’t even know where to find it so I entered it into my trusty GPS and in 2 minutes was there.
It was wonderful! I wondered how many other amazing sites I have never bothered to see that are there in the streets that surround me.
I love this little cafe. I am sitting outside under a big umbrella area.
There is a heater in the centre which would be great for cool evenings.
Well now it is 12.00 noon, and if I am lucky I might be able to ring my daughter for a chat.
I have arranged to see my two little grandies from my Adelaide daughter next week, so am also looking forward to that.
