20180907 – Friday – Planning
I have just downloaded a “planner” to try to get my life in shape.
I seem to write my diary and transcribe studies and put them up on fb, but other important things I just let slide, and it has got to stop.
My friend Darren always has his affairs in order. He rang me last night and we had a short chat.
I realised that it was through him that he and I have maintained our friendship over the 30 years of his life. It is he who initiates almost every contact.
Not only that, he is a fitness freak, and ALWAYS exercises every day. He does it by joining a group (his thing is Crossfit) and currently he is trying out for Ninja Warrior!!
He keeps in touch with his family although he lives in interstate and visits them regularly.
He is a gentle soul and not confrontational and lets conflict situations pass him by.
He takes on projects and always FOLLOWS through on them, whereas I have started a million projects in my life-time but almost never follow through.
In my ipad I have a list of my “friends,” good friends, but when I think of them, I find that months, years sometimes pass before I contact them, even my family. I am not good at continuity.
I asked him how he does it and he said, “Little and often.” He said he got the habit from is mother.
He says he always has about 4-5 projects on the go at a time, never more than that, because it becomes unmanageable.
He is very goal-oriented and very balanced in his approach to life. He makes time for pleasure and trips and overseas trips and so he spends his life planning.
To achieve his goals means that he often has to organise someone else’s life as well.
If he decides to go away for a holiday, he may have to organise the plans of a friend who is less organised than himself.
This requires persuading them to go with him, maybe planning THEIR trip for them. I tell you, he is simply amazing.
He sets time aside for reading and has read some 200+ books on topics related to his work.
He is currently writing a blog on finances and I have no doubt he will become famous for it. He sends his writing to me to edit and proof-read, and I am amazed at his knowledge.
So, here at the latter end of my life, I am learning lessons that I should have learned much earlier.
Life is so short, and how we spend our precious time is so important.
Well, the one thing I have managed to do in my life time is at least to put the really important things first.
And those two things are, for me, at least, Bible study and hanging on to my memories.
I have kept a diary over my entire life-time and in my latter years this habit has kept my mind from dementia, I believe.
It has also given me a lot of pleasure.
The past is REAL to me, and through my diary I never forget ANYTHING, or anyone.
My present is filled with thinking about yesterday and today, and through my Bible study I think A LOT about the future.
There is so much written about the future in the Bible, and I get such a thrill when I learn something new about the future Age in the Kingdom of God.
So, I guess the quote that comes to mind for me, is, “Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto thee.”
Anyway back to the “planner.”
The one I have downloaded really doesn’t suit my needs very well. If anyone has a better one, I would appreciate hearing about it?
