20181118 – Sunday – The Whalers inn.
This weekend has been the best!
I really felt so privileged to be invited to stay in Jim L’s holiday home at Encounter Bay on Whaler’s Way for the weekend.
Present were my 2nd cousin Trevor G and Ali and Jase and Mel and Amanda and David and sundry kids, Savvy, Harry, Asher, Mia, Eva
Jim’s holiday home is set up high, so there are glorious views of the Bluff and a couple of islands further out in the sea.
Sitting on the verandah and looking out over the water is sheer bliss.
The weather was perfect one day and beautiful the next, and Darren was down from Darwin, so that was and added plus.
They were all to be walking around Granite Island when I arrives, so I set myself up for a coffee at Maccas and spent most of the morning and afternoon working away on my ipad before they all arrived back.
Darren sent me gleeful photos of David’s car bogged in the sand at Goolwa and he enjoyed watching Jase and Trevor pulling Dave’s car out with a new sort of strap that Jase had in his car to handle just such an occasion.
I got to the house first and so I managed with great difficulty to carry all my belongings up the stairs and onto the verandah.
Trevor texted me the location of the key to the house, but I was quite happy to sit on the verandah and in a comfortable chair and wait until they all returned back home.
The Gs know how to enjoy holidays and Ali and Trev are both the best grandparents in existence I am sure and the kids just love being on holiday with them.
And so do I. In the evening they had an early Xmas with Chris Cringles (??) presents all round.
To my surprise I found I was included too,and Ali and Trev gave me two pillows made of bamboo for my trailer to go with the new duna they had also purchased for me.
They could not have chosen better for me.
We sat around till quite late, talking and chatting to each other and Daren made up a bed in he lounge for me, so I had the whole top store available to. Me for the night.
Everyone else slept downstairs.
I went to bed at around midnight, but as usual received a number of Emails from around the world, because it was day-time for them, but unfortunately night time for me.
In the morning we all had breakfast in drinks and drabs, and Darren and I arranged to have coffee at the Whaler’s Inn whilst everyone else walked from the house to the Inn, and so we managed to get a half an hour or so together before they all arrived.
So we had a big catch and we so enjoyed ourselves.
Then the others returned and we found a shady table and chatted and talked and chatted some more.
The Gore’s are such good friends.
Ali and I have been close friends since 1974 and my daughter Deb had her wedding photos taken at Ali’s place and then at Peter H’s place for the garden photos.
So it is now 2.02 in the afternoon and everyone is eating dinner and playing Cludo.
Ali and I are sitting at the end of the table and both doing work we have brought with us.
Amanda and David had to leave early this morning and just texted Ali, saying “Hello family, we hope your are not having too much fun without us!! We really enjoyed our day with you and wish we had been able to stay.”
Amanda and Ali are the glue that holds their family together, that’s for sure.
Darren is very competitive, so he and Mel are locking horns in their game of Cludo.
I don’t even know how to play it and don’t have the slightest interest in learning, but the G family are all experts in all sorts of card games.
The children are so interesting. Harry, with the red hair is a quiet wide-eyed peaceful little boy, and Savvy is the complete opposite and is a bright eyed little girl with all the promise of being one of the “sporting” Gs.
Then there are all of Amanda and David’s children, Asher, Mia and Eva, cousins who all LOVE to be together.
I love being with them all. I really do. So I have had a simple wonderful time.
Ali and Trev are going to stay for one more day so that they can clean up the house to their satisfaction. They would have to be the best “renters” anyone could have for a holiday home.
I am struggling getting photos up on my posts, but I hope I can manage it this time, because I took a lot of them.
So my “healthy eating plan” for yesterday.
Fay: Saturday 17th Nov 2018
Darren: How r y ou sugar levels now?
https://journal.crossfit.com/article/dull-cecil
Good article.
Fay: 13.3 sugar level
Darren: It would seem it did not sway too bad to the other direction.
Also 4 to 7 is normal levels.
At 3.3 if you just had had a couple of gapes then u would have been in he normal range which is great.
Just don’t think you are used to being that low though.
Fay: Yes, not too bad because I ate fruit not glucose jelly beans that they tell you to take.
I feel ok today as well whereas before my whole day would have been written off!
Any lower and I would be unconscious.
Remember that one time that you found me after I had been 2 1/2 hours unconscious.
Darren; I found you somewhere? Or I rang you?
Fay: I had just woken up after being 2 hours unconscious.
I rang u but didn’t member why I had rung you.
You came rushing around and found me in bed fully dressed for work, but my duna was soaked as if someone had turned a hose onto me.
And I wasn’t coherent.
I had nothing sweet to eat in the fridge, but you found 2 muffins and I ate those down Nd eventually came to my senses.
Darren: Yeah right. Was this back in Big Byte days?
Fay: Yes when I lied around the corner from u. I had the 5 br house there set up as office.
In the big family roo.
We have had different offices over time and different people working for us
Darren: Ahh. Long time ago.
Fay: It would have been in 2005 or 6 I reckon.
I had Judy G living with me and that weird girl, a relative of Colin S. You HAVE to remember that?
Darren: No idea, remember Judy G thought.
Anyway, So u have felt fine today?
Fay: You were just a kid then.
Only interested in yourself!!
Darren: I think if you get to around 3 again then next time just 3-6 grapes should bring u back up to 4 or 5 which is the normal range.
Fay: Yes, I am just about to leave for Victor.
Darren: And yes, still only think of myself and still just a kid!
Weren’t you coming tonight?
We are walking around Granite Island today.
You are more than welcome but might find it difficult with your knees.
Fay: Yes it would but when u are hypo you have a great urge to eat and eat.
Very hard to stop.
Darren: I can understand that.
Well good experience for next time.
Also, have u almost used up the grapes.?
We are now getting rid of those from the fruits in the house, remember?
Fay: I will develop more self-control over time, I ope.
Yes, I remember.
Darren; At lest the memory is intact then.
Fay: Just make sure I can get in house. I will work all morning and afternoon.
Darren: What time do u plan to arrive.
Fay: 1 1/2 hours from now
If you are not there I will find a cafe.
Darren: We may or May it.
Everyone is just starting to have breakfast.
Are u brining up food for today?
I have only coordinated for dinner at 7 pm tonight.
Fay: Yes, I an completely ok.
You don’t have to worry about me.
I have plenty of food for whole day.
Don’t need you guys at all.
Just do whatever you are doing.
I will find a cafe to work in.
I just need a bed for the night.
Darren: Ok, great.
I just had a 45 minute nap on the couch.
Was so nice.
I don’t do that often.
Fay: I bet you don’t.
I thought of u all walking around Granite Island and remembered what that would be like on his beautiful day!
I reckon I will be able to do that NEXT year. I feel so good today.
Darren: I reckon u will too.
Fay: I feel like Hezekiah being given another 15 years to live.
And like Daniel who refused the king’s meat and asked for just vegetables.
I hare written my post for the day.
Sent daily form at 2.11 pm.
Well I am at Whaler’s Way at Encounter Bay now.
Just arrived. Is the key anywhere?
Darren: We are bogged at Goolwa beach, lol.
Fay: Bogged!!
Darren: Getting ourselves out now.
Ah, don’t think so.
Fay: How did u get yourself IN!!
Darren: Think there was too many ppl in the car
Fay: That is so funny!
Any good Samaritan’s around?
Darren: There is a key.
We have 2 4wd.
Jase has a rope to help us get out.
Fay: Oh, that’s good.
I think I will just stay on verandah. It is very pleasant here. I had enough trouble getting UP those steps in the first place with all my gear.
Photo of being bogged
Fay: ell what were u doing driving through sand any way?
3 cars? How many of u are there?
So what are you getting everyone for diner tonight, Darren?
This place is so nice!!
I feel very privileged to be here and that is for sure!
Photo of cafe
Fay: Garden looks manicured, has Ali been at work?
Where is the cafe in the photo?
I remember being at Victor when their was a storm and one of the Rumbalow family went out in the middle of the storm to try to retrieve his boat that had broken from its moorings.
He was drowned and I had an old ambulance as my car at that time and I had a mattress int he back.
I took it out and a blanket and the drowned man was put on it while they tried to revive him.
I never forgot it.
Neither did I get the mattress or blanket back afterwards.
Darren: I’m just reading your blog. Are you not using the green fuel card for fuel?
Fay: Yes?
Darren: You said you got Delin earth today?
Fay: No that was my card for some water that I bought.
Darren: Ahhhh
Fay: I’d put that on the card too if I could!!
Are there any photos in the blog? I am having trouble getting them attached.
Darren: Yeah, all the photos are in there.
Fay: Oh, that’s good.
Writing the blog means that u and I get to talke a lot more than we would normally.
