After the death of the two sons of Aaron because they had offered profane fire before Yahweh (Lev 16:1), Michael the Archangel, the angel of the Cherubim, gave Moses instructions about how He was to be approached by Aaron when he came into the Holy Place before the Mercy Seat. Michael told Moses that He would appear above the Mercy Seat in the cloud that was over the Mercy Seat and Aaron was to approach once a year to make atonement for the people (Lev 16:34) and if Israel followed his decrees and obeyed His commands, then God would bless the nation (Lev 26) but if the children of Israel disobeyed His commands then he would “bring His sword upon them (Lev 26:25) and He himself would lay waste the land and draw out the sword” of the Cherubim upon them (Lev 26:33). These were the decrees, the laws, and the regulations that Michael the Archangel, the angel of the Name, established at Mount Sinai between himself and the Israelites through Moses (Lev 26:46).

God then commanded Moses to take a census of Israel’s community by their clans and families because Israel was to become the army of Yahweh, the Army of hosts, which is what the Cherubim is, would go forward and subdue the Canaanites who occupied God’s land (Lev 1:2).

The tribe of Levi was not included in the census because they were to be in charge of the tabernacle to carry it when Israel marched forward at God’s command (Num 1:51).

God placed the children of Israel in encampments around the tabernacle each according to the “faces” of the Cherubim, the Lion, the man, the Ox and the Eagle which became the standards of Israel in their travels (Num 2:3,34).

Out of the 12 tribes of Israel, Moses chose 12 men to represent the twelve tribes and to help Moses the men of war in Israel who would now be the “army” of Yahweh of Armies. These men (Num 1) were like 12 of the 24 elders who were around the throne of “the man upon the throne” in the book of of Revelation. 12 more would be included when the Gentiles were brought into the Hope of Israel.

No one who travelled as part of this manifestation of the Cherubim was to be unclean and anyone who had a defiling disease had to remain outside of the camp (Num 5:3) so that the Cherubic encampment of Israel could be holy to God.

Everyone in the Cherubic camp had to be faithful and so Michael established laws to remove and punish the unfaithful men and women who might be in the camp. Instruction was given about how to deal with unfaithfulness in Israel because God is a jealous God and requires his people to be faithful to him.

Michael then instituted the Law of the Nazarite to show what kind of dedication he required from the army of the Lord (Num 6:13,21).

If Israel became and remained Holy, then Yahweh gave them his special blessing which was like a “divine hug,” “The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his “faces” to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, and give you peace.”

From then on Israel put God’s name on their children and God blessed them.

How wonderful is it that Israel Israel became “Yahweh of Armies” on earth, and as the Cherubim of God, marched towards the promised land.
