20190624 – Tuesday – A sunny day

At last, a sunny day!

I woke up fairly early, for me! These days.

I was so glad of my new rc air conditioner through the night.

I had to switch it on and off a number of times because it was either too hot or too cold.

But with the remote control right beside my bed, that didn’t matter too much.

But today is a sunny day.

I rang Jeff and asked him what he was doing for the day.

He told me he was going to the “oldies” meeting at Enfield but he was prepared to drive me to “Scoots” before he left for Enfield, and then I would only have to walk back to my unit afterwards instead of both ways.

I thought about Enfield.

I would like to have gone with him, but I couldn’t because I was wearing trousers and not a skirt!!!

How unbelievable was our culture, that I couldn’t go to a meeting because I wasn’t dressed “right.”

And yet all the women at Enfield wear trousers during the week, but each of them dresses up in the “proper” clothing for all and any meetings at Enfield.

I debated with myself, will I/won’t I go back to my unit and change into a “skirt” so that I could be acceptably attired for the meeting, and THEN I could go there with Jeff.

No! Too much trouble, so we drove to “Scootz” and I made up my mind to do without the “fellowship” of the “suitably attired.”

I am so tired of these outdated “double standards” we women are made to endure.

ALL the women would be HAPPY to wear the same daily attire they wear on a daily basis and not to have to wear “special” clothing for Sunday, clothing that requires stockings and leaves legs and thighs cold and uncomfortable during our bitter winters.

It is not women who would be complaining, it is men.

They who do NOT have to wear skirts insist that their women DO.

Why do I conform?

Because I am too much of a coward to buck the system?

And perhaps because I attend a more sensible ecclesia that permits its sisters freedom of choice in its dress.

So the problem does not present itself on a daily basis for me as it does for the Enfield sisters.

Thank goodness for South Adelaide and Adelaide and Hyde Park, for freedom to come to Jesus “as we are,” and not in pretence!!
