Chapter 3 – 1993 Jeff and Fay ‘s Visit to Israel – Keren Hayesod Presentation at Beit Shalom
19930210 – Wednesday -Beit Shalom
Our Jewish Agency guide, Shraga Hect drove us to Beit Shalom which is a beautiful mansion in Jerusalem where guests of the Jewish Agency are accommodated and entertained. Jeff hadn’t told me about our invitation because he wanted to surprise me. I was surprised all right, and not very happy because I was wearing my hiking outfit of trousers and thick top. If I had known where we were going I would have dressed very differently. Sigh!
Our hosts were Yossi Glatt, Director of Overseas Relations; Moshe Gur, Director General of Keren Hayesod; Elie Amir, Director General of Youth Aliyah; Sylvia Temking, Director of Overseas Relations, Youth Aliyah; Yechiel Lechet, Head of Youth Aliyah. There was a photographer present during and after the meal, and later an elaborate presentation album was given to us by Yossi Glatt before I left Israel.
We were given a delicious lunch – at least Jeff told me it was delicious but I was coming down with the ‘flu and could not eat it. Elie Amir is the author of books “The Scapegoat” and “Farewell to Bagdad.” Moshe Gur told us about the Youth Village they had arranged for us to visit and stay overnight. Hoffim is its name and it is the largest Youth Village the Jewish Agency owns. Sylvia Temkin presented me with a beautiful perfume container and she whispered in my ear (this is VERY expensive!)
When it was time to leave, Moshe asked us to sign the visitor’s book which we did. There was only one other set of signatures on the page where we were asked to sign, and that was the signatures of Hazel and Bob Hawke! Of course, they are privileged to share page with us!
