Chapter 10 – The Cherubim – in Exodus by Fay Berry

imageEx 34
The Angel of the Lord having decided that He would continue with the nation of israel and lead them in their wilderness wanderings, now commands Moses to ascend the mountain once more and God would give the nation his law through the hand of Moses (Ex 34:2)

Moses cut tablets of stone and once again ascended to the top of Mount Sinai. The Angel of the Lord descended from the Cherubim and stood with Moses on the top of the Mount shrouded by the cloud and the Angel proclaimed the Name of Yahweh as he passed before Moses and Moses bowed himself to the ground and worshipped God (Ex 34:5)

Michael the Archangel accepted Moses worship and promised him that he would accompany Israel on Israel’s journeys and subdue the nations before them (Ex 33:17; 34;8) The Angel proclaimed all God’s laws and commanded Moses to write these words down because according to the tenor of these words he was making a covenant between Israel and God.

Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights, writing the words of the Law (Ex 34:28) And God wrote the ten commandments on the two tablets of stone, to replace those that had been shattered at the foot of the mount.

When Moses came down from the Mount, his face shone, reflecting the glory of the presence of the Angel of the Lord who had passed before him (Ex 34:30) When Aaron and all the people saw the brightness of his face they were afraid. Moses called to them and Aaron and the elders came to him and he talked with them with his face uncovered, but when he had finished speaking to them he put a veil over his face.

He wore the veil whenever he needed to communicate the words of the Lord to the people, but when Moses was in the presence of the Angel of the Cherubim, he took the veil from off his face and spoke with him “faces to faces,” (Ex 34:34).
