20190131 – Thursday – Milang and the Oasis

I left Selena’s with intention of going straight home, but then I remembered that Deb H had just moved to Milang and so I decided to divert to see if I could find her new home.

I turned back towards Milang and drove from there to the shores of the Lake.

I hadn’t been to Milang for years, maybe about 16 years, to be precise.

I used to live at Langhorne creek which is not far from Milang, so this area was somewhere I often used to visit.

Uuu I went

straight to the foreshore, past the caravan park and then to all the old cabins that are there.

There is a dirt road that runs between all the cabins, so I drove along this and looked with interest at each cabin.

To my wonder and amazement I saw that every one of those cabins looked much the same as they had always looked, and I am sure they have been there all of my lifetime.

Around about 2005 I almost purchased one of them, but it never did actually happen, but I know I intended to do so.

I drove back towards the Langhorne Creek road and decided that while I was at it I would continue on to see the house I lived in for a year or so at Langhorne Creek, along the Wellington Road Highway.

I owned the house on one acre of land there and also another 200 acres of land further up the road.

I was disappointed to see that my old house had been neglected since I sold it, and the 200 acres of land land was almost unrecognisable to me.

I had divided off a “hammer head” piece of land and sold that to a horse owner and then sold off the remainder of the 200 acres about 6 months later.

Now the horse owner had developed his/her piece of land by putting a house at the hammer head part, and a series of paddocks for horses up towards the road.

They have done with the land exactly what I had intended it to be if I had kept it.

So now they have a profitable business and a house on the same property.

I then drove back down Wellington Road and took a right turn to see if I could find the properties of two of my neighbours that I had to do with at that time.

One was a single guy who had built a house on his piece of land and I remember had installed a lot of solar panels on his property.

The other was a property developed by two single ladies.

One of them had contracted cancer and so the other woman and she retired to this property essentially to wait for her to die.

To add to their income which was by pension, they agitated sheep and grew a veggie garden and they sold things that they made to fill up their coffers and to keep their income in balance with their outgoings.

Then there was one other gentleman who had built his own house and had included some amazing features within the walls of his house.

The whole front of his property was 2 storeys high, and into this area he grew trees which grew right up and into the 2nd story and you could see them from outside through a motley selection of window panes he had gained from various tips or second hand places.

My reminiscing being over, I drove on the way home, through Langhorne Creek, to the Oasis, that I have not seen before, and which is a beautiful restaurant set back from the road amongst wonderful trees and shrubs.

I was the only person there, so I ordered the kangaroo, and had a wonderful meal (which I SHOULD not have purchased) but did not regret it even after it was eaten and the bill came.

This has been a special week-end in the middle of the week, and I will have to cease my spending forthwith.
